Asario is also known as garden cress seeds (lepidium sativum). It belongs to family Cruciferae. In India it is known as ALIV or HALIM seeds. It is not very commonly used and hence very less is known about them. In India it is cultivated as culinary vegetable.
Asario seeds are small red, brown seeds with a sharp, tangy and peppery flavour. It is useful in leprosy, skin diseases, asthma, cough, cold and weakness. Roots are bitter and sharp. It is an important source of iron, folic acid, calcium, vitamin C, E and A. The seed contains arachidic and linoleic fatty acids. The seeds are high in calories and protein, whereas the leaves are an excellent source of vitamin A.
